Planet Smoothie now open on highway in Rehoboth

As the name suggests, and the company slogan on the inside wall confirms – The best tasting smoothie on the planet! – Planet Smoothie is all about smoothies. Under the categories of favorites, lite, superfood, energy and protein, the shop offers over 30 different types of smoothies. Additionally, fiber, protein, multivitamin, energy, immunity and fat-burning blasts can be added to any smoothie.

The majority of smoothie names are silly – Twig & Berries, 2 Piece Bikini, Grape Ape, Nutty Brazilian, but owners Len and Renee Resetar said they’re all healthy. The ingredients are fresh fruits, leafy greens, unsweetened cocoa powder, all-natural peanut butter and other good-for-you foods, Len said.

“There’s no fruit syrups,” said Len. “A person can taste it’s not loaded with extra sugars.”

Len said the protein supplements are plant-based, and can be added for those times when there isn’t enough time to get a full meal.

Renee said Planet Smoothie is a popular Southeast franchise, but they’re all independently owned, and she and Len are trying to bring them north. She said the recipes are lab-tested at corporate headquarters.

In a previous life, both the Resetars worked for MBNA, and Len still works as an airplane mechanic. They said when they looked into their own business, they wanted to open something that would represent the healthy lifestyle they embody.

Renee said they looked at other franchises, but chose Planet Smoothie because it falls under the Kahala Brands umbrella. 

“We thought it was a good reflection of us,” she said.

For months, the sidewalk-to-eave windows of the new Planet Smoothie location on Route 1 in Rehoboth were covered in bright-pink stickers announcing the arrival of the business.

A couple days after the store opened Aug. 16, Renee said the stickers were used on purpose. This is the couple’s second location. Renee said when they opened in Newark last year, people kept looking into the windows during the construction period.

“This time around, we wanted to have a big reveal when construction was complete,” said Renee.

Len said Planet Smoothie offers a reward program – a customer gets a 22-ounce smoothie for free on their 11th visit. He said online coupons and discounts are also available. By the fall, he said, they expect to have curbside service.

Len said he anticipates working with local schools to offer students discounts with a student ID. Pointing to a big orange 5-gallon cooler, he said Planet Smoothie also caters events for people looking for a healthy alternative.

Located in Beach Plaza, next to Fins Ale House, the Resetars said their Route 1 location is going to be ideal for their year-round business. There’s easy access to the store northbound and southbound, Len said.
