March 25, 2024

After two tough losses, the Delmarva Christian softball team notched its first win March 22 with a 13-6 victory over the Ducks of Odessa High School in Georgetown.

Senior pitcher Lily Hutt came in the during the second inning and collected eight strikeouts.

The Royals offense was consistent across seven innings, scoring multiple runs in all but one stanza.

The Royals had 11 hits in the game. Maggie Kwiatkowski went 2-for-2 with a walk, a hit by pitch and three runs scored. Lily Hutt went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scored twice.

“That was a big win for us,” said Royals coach Rachel Fetterman. “I felt like everyone was positive today. Obviously, losses sometimes can take you in a different direction than you want, but these girls see the bigger picture. Even though we lost to Indian River and lost to Caesar Rodney, it wasn’t like they hung their hat on that loss. They looked at it like there was a lot of good that happened even in those losses. They built off those losses. The earlier in the season you get in those high-pressure situations, it actually makes it more comfortable.”

”I didn’t have my curveball today,” said Hutt. “So I started throwing a fastball, then went back to the curve, which got better. This was a great game for us coming off the two losses. We needed a win like this. Also we were down at one point in the game, so it was a good fight for us. It also helped to boost our confidence in our hitting after we struggled in our last two games. This gives us good momentum going into the next week and then spring break.”

The Royals hosted Archmere Academy Monday, March 25.
