Sussex Children’s Book Festival a success

June 7, 2024

Despite a few raindrops, the third Sussex County Libraries Children’s Book Festival had a fabulous turnout with some quick thinking to house the event inside the Georgetown Public Library. The library offered attendees a literacy event with book themes sprinkled throughout. Well over 1,000 people attended this four-hour festival where they could meet and greet great children’s authors, visit a kiosk for Browseabout Books, and enjoy entertaining and educational story times. Before entering the library, families could visit the Little Farm’s petting zoo. The library’s parking lot was converted into a food court with Apple Scrapple’s very own Hometown Harvest, DE Taco food trucks, and a covered tent area with tables and chairs courtesy of Barton’s Rental to enjoy these culinary delights.

Special thanks to the Town of Georgetown, the Georgetown Armory and the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce for supporting this event. Additional thanks to Clean Delaware Inc., Casella Waste Management, TRU by Hilton, Indian River School District, Indian River JROTC, Surf Bagel Long Neck, Bella Capri and Starbucks.

We must also acknowledge the financial support from the Friends of the Bridgeville, Georgetown, Milton, Millsboro, Seaford public libraries and the Selbyville Public Library. Also, the Sussex Children’s Book Festival has been made possible in part by Delaware Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Thank you to all who attended and participated, and we hope to see you at the fourth Children’s Book Festival event!
