Sussex Tech hammers Cape softball 16-1

March 26, 2011

The Cape softball team opened the 2011 season at home March 25 and got whacked hard by visiting Sussex Tech 16-1 in a five-inning game. The Ravens had opened the season the previous Tuesday by beating Seaford 21-0.

The Ravens' offensive attack was highlighted by a pair of home runs, including a solo shot by freshman Tiarra Maddox and a Kelsey Doherty grand slam.

Kimberly Smith and Ashton Tomlinson combined in the pitching victory for the Ravens.

The Vikings were limited to four hits, which included a first-inning triple by Tiara Duffy that scored Jalyn Maull, who had singled.

Cape hosted Dover March 29, winning 22-1, and will host Seaford Friday, April 1.  Winless Dover has been outscored 44-4 in the first two games while Seaford has been outscored 46-2. Throw in Cape’s 16-1 loss to Sussex Tech and three teams have combined for 0-5 records while being outscored 106-7.
