April 28, 2021

On Wednesday, April 21, 2021, Teresa K. Hallquist, loving mother and sister, passed away at the age of 89 in Wolcott, Vt., after a long illness.

Teresa was born Dec. 21, 1931, in Punxsutawney, Pa.  She was the youngest of 12 surviving children.  In 1952, Teresa moved to Washington, D.C., to pursue a nursing degree. There she met Norman J. Hallquist, a student working on his engineering degree under the GI bill.  They married and had seven children. During their lives together, they lived in many places, including Hartford and Syracuse, N.Y., Burlington, Vt., and Lewes.  After the death of Norman, Teresa shared her life with James C. Kovarik, a friend for decades of both Teresa and Norm.

Teresa was a great cook and had an incredible fashion sense.  She and Norm were bridge partners and wonderful dancers.  She loved to play blackjack and, after the death of Norm, was often seen at the casino tables with Jim.

Teresa was preceded in death by her husband Norman; her companion Jim; and her daughter Greta Daczkowski.  She is survived by her sons, Mark Hallquist and Jeff Hallquist of New Bern, N.C.; her daughter, Christine Hallquist of Wolcott; her sons, Kurt Hallquist of Smyrna, Tenn., and Steig Hallquist of Broadlands, Va.; and her daughter Julia Hallquist of Syracuse, N.Y.   She had eight grandchildren, Sean, Travis, Craig, Derek, Kiersten, Jillian, Cara and Traz, and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Maggie.

Teresa will be buried in a gravesite near her mother in Punxsutawney June 5.  Funeral Services will be held at Saints Cosmas and Damian Church in Punxsutawney at 11 a.m. that day.
