UD Osher Lifelong Learning course registration to open Oct. 7

October 2, 2024

Before the Thanksgiving holiday, the University of Delaware Osher Lifelong Learning Institute will offer more than 35 five-week classes at locations in Lewes and Dover, and online. Registration opens Monday, Oct. 7, at olli.udel.edu.

Classes begin the week of Tuesday, Oct. 15, and continue through Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Adults 50 and older interested in current affairs can join Ralph Begleiter, a former CNN world affairs correspondent and UD professor, as he leads an examination of Media and Public Opinion in the 2024 Election. Participants will explore the roles of money, news and social media, advertising, public opinion and more during the current election cycle.

Several classes highlight the critical role of women in government. America’s First Ladies: The Women Beside the Presidents reviews the lives and contributions of selected first ladies. We Can Do It! Women of the FDR Administration and World War II explores the accomplishments of women who served in the Roosevelt administration, as well as those in the military and critical industries.

Other course topics include an introduction to codes and ciphers, creative and performing arts, and hands-on activities for crafters and gamers.

UD’s OLLI program is a volunteer-based learning cooperative for adults age 50-plus, and spouses of any age, to take and teach classes together with no grades, exams or educational prerequisites.
