Gage Joseph picked up his second win of the season March 28, striking out seven Dover batters in the Vikings’ 10-2 road victory.
The Vikings tied together nine hits, scoring three in each of the second and third innings before putting the game out of reach with a four-run fifth inning. Dover tried to make a comeback, scoring two in the bottom of the fifth, but Jaxon Clampitt ended the threat. Barritt Ross came in to end the game.
Jase Mitchell led Cape with a home run, walk and a pair of RBIs. Brian Fleming had two hits and three RBIs. Woodbridge transfer Lex Wescott had a pair of hits.
“We started out putting pressure on them in the first, but we couldn’t push a run across the plate,” said Cape coach Ben Evick. “In the second, things opened when Jase Mitchell smashed a line drive home run off their scoreboard. Gage worked hard on the mound again, struggling to find the zone a little bit, but he held them scoreless through three innings. Sophomore Jaxon Clampitt came in relief to throw three solid innings and Barritt Ross closed the door. We are starting to find our stride at the plate while having some very good at bats. We are playing solid defense behind our pitchers as well.”
Cape (2-0) hosts Delmar (1-2) Thursday, March 30 at Chris Short Field.
