Wallace C. Evans, USDA retiree

October 23, 2024

Wallace C. Evans, 89, passed away in Ormond Beach, Fla., Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024.

Wallace was born in Millville in 1934 to Clifton and Mabel Evans. He graduated from Lord Baltimore High School in Ocean View and was active in sports and music. He continued his education at University of Delaware, earning a master’s degree in agricultural economics. He was a statistician for the U.S. Department of Agriculture until his retirement in 2000. His role with this department enabled him to live in several different states. Post-retirement found him splitting time between residences in Chincoteague, Va., and Ormond Beach, Fla. He and Grace traveled and cruised to numerous foreign destinations. His progressive Parkinson’s symptoms eventually curtailed his ability to travel.

Wallace was married 69 years to his high school sweetheart, Grace. They have two daughters, LuAnn (Dave) and Vanessa (Ray); five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Wallace was a member of the Church of Christ, serving as an elder with the congregation at Camp Hill, Pa., for 25 years. He was a humble man who loved God and his family.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 27, at Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View, with visitation beginning at noon. Interment will follow at Mariner’s Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery, 81 Central Ave., Ocean View.
