World AIDS Day service set Dec. 1 in Rehoboth
CAMP Rehoboth will host a World AIDS Day service Sunday, Dec. 1. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. at CAMP Rehoboth Community Center on Baltimore Avenue, where attendees will take part in a candlelight procession to honor the memory of all who have died of AIDS. The procession will end at All Saints’ Episcopal Church on Olive Avenue, where a multi-faith, secular service will be held at 6 p.m. with a reception immediately following in the parish hall.
The service will feature a reading of names of those lost to the AIDS epidemic, submitted by community members. To submit names for remembrance, go to camprehoboth.com/worldaidsday. The Alliance singers of the CAMP Rehoboth Chorus will perform during the program.
Once again, CAMP Rehoboth will host a portion of the AIDS Quilt for viewing at All Saints’ Church, where it will serve as a powerful visual backdrop for the service as attendees remember the many lives lost to AIDS and reflect on its continued impact today.
This year, World AIDS Day organizers have adopted the nationwide theme, Collective Action: Sustain and Accelerate HIV Progress. As part of CAMP Rehoboth’s commitment to community connection, awareness and social impact, additional programming will be offered during December in honor of HIV/AIDS Awareness Month. CAMP Rehoboth also provides free condoms, dams, and rapid HIV testing Monday to Friday, all to help end the HIV epidemic.
