William F. Peters, “Billy, “Bill” “Will,” 71, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 17, 2016, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
He was raised in Queens Village, N.Y., and spent summers in Rockaway Point, N.Y. As a young man he excelled at gymnastics and swimming. He was a born leader; captain of the lifeguards, Rockaway Point; an honored member of the U.S. Naval Air Reserves out of Floyd Bennett Airfield, Brooklyn, N.Y.; president of the National Leukemia Association of Long Island, N.Y.; Little League t-ball/baseball coach, swim coach for St. Peter Celestine Swim Team and president of the Cherry Valley Swim Club, Cherry Hill, N.J.
Bill met his wife through a mutual friend early in their twenties. To them it was love at first sight. They enjoyed hanging out with friends and dancing, and just being together. After 49 years of marriage their connection is as strong today as it was when they first met. Bill’s favorite things to do when he was not working was to spend quality time with his family, and he was an avid fisherman.
Bill worked his entire career in sales. Beginning his career with Louis Frey Company in New York City, and then transferring to Cherry Hill, N.J. After several years as a real estate sales consultant Bill and Boni moved to Delaware where he continued, and retired his real estate sales career with New Dimension Homes, Long Neck.
William is survived by loving wife Barbara “Boni” (Busby); and his four children, Scott (Shelagh), Kristin (John), Darren (Melissa) and Brian (Jaime); as well as his 10 grandchildren; his brother Kenneth (Pati) and their two children.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 24, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may call after 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 9, at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 402 N. Kings Hwy., Cherry Hill, where friends and family may call after 9:30 a.m. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made in the name of William Peters to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
