Sussex women's tennis team wins big in South Carolina

A women's tennis team from Sussex County won first place in a tournament held on Kiawah Island, S.C., May 1-4. The players, all over the age of 50, competed against teams from throughout the Southeast and as far away as California, Texas, Minnesota and Canada. The tournament featured play on three consecutive days, followed by the finals on the fourth.

The Delaware team, All About that Base, which was in second place going into the finals, managed to beat the first-place team, Double Trouble, winning two courts out of three.

Following a celebratory lunch on the veranda of the big house at Kiawah, the waitstaff presented the players with a congratulatory dessert plate.

Team players were Ann Boytim, Gail Cooper (co-captain), Susan Carkin, Evelyn Davidson, Suellen Gallamore (captain), Carol McCarra, Judy Redard and Franny Wisniewski.
