Young philanthropists raise $12,000 to support addiction treatment services
The southern chapter of The Next Generation of the Delaware Community Foundation raised more than $12,000 at its Sixth Annual Chowdown for Charity event held Feb. 23 at Maple Dale Country Club.
In the friendly culinary competition, Brickworks Brewing & Eats was dubbed Chowdown Champion 2018, beating out signature dishes from competitors The Greene Turtle, Dover; Maple Dale Country Club; Chaiyo; Fins Oyster House; Lefty's Alley & Eats; Grandpa Mac; Wild Quail Country Club; Bluecoast Rehoboth; and Starboard Raw.
The funds raised will provide grants for local nonprofit organizations supporting addiction treatment and family support services. Since Chowdown for Charity’s inception, Next Gen South has awarded more than $72,500 in grants.
“Next Gen South is dedicated to helping our neighbors and strengthening our communities. This is not possible without everyone who contributed to make Chowdown for Charity such a success,” said Board President Verity Watson. “We are sincerely grateful for the support of our communities and look forward to making further investments into Kent and Sussex counties.”
Next Gen South is a philanthropic organization that was created and is directed by young professionals living and working in Kent and Sussex counties. Its mission is to develop young professionals into effective nonprofit board leaders. Next Gen South board members engage in fundraising, grant making, community outreach, education and more.
