Broadkiln VFW Post 6984 has announced the annual Memorial Day Service in Milton Memorial Park has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The service typically features placing a wreath and raising the flag to honor military veterans, as well as speeches from VFW leaders and visiting dignitaries.
In a letter posted on the town’s website, Post 6984 Commander Hank Rickards said the service was canceled to ensure the health and safety of Milton residents.
“We ask that you still remember and honor all of our military members, both living and deceased, with just as much pride as if the ceremony had taken place,” Rickards wrote. “Please, say a prayer, salute a flag, and reflect on what Memorial Day really means. Stay safe, and we will see you all next year.”
