Meditation teacher La Sarmiento to lead retreat April 2
Insight Meditation Community of Lewes will welcome meditation teacher La Sarmiento for a hybrid daylong retreat from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 2, in person at St. Peter’s parish hall in Lewes, and via Zoom.
Taking Refuge in a World on Fire will be the topic of a dharma talk portion of the event.
A practitioner of Vipassana meditation since 1998, La Sarmienta is the board president and a teacher with the Insight Meditation Community of Washington, D.C., the guiding teacher of the IMCW Black, Indigenous and People of Color and LGBTQIA+ Sanghas, and a mentor for the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program. They completed the Spirit Rock Community Dharma Leader Training in 2012 and teach retreats around the country.
“In the midst of a global pandemic, climate crisis, social injustices and the war in Ukraine and beyond, taking refuge in the Buddha, dharma and sangha has never felt more important. In these challenging and difficult times, we recollect the power of community to know that we are not alone and that together we can deepen our knowing of our interconnectedness and interdependence,” said Sarmiento.
All are welcome to attend this day of meditation and discussion. Participants are asked to bring a bag lunch/snacks.
The suggested donation is $30 for the full-day retreat. For those with limited income, 50 percent or any amount of the suggested donation offered is welcome. If budget does not allow for a donation, simply show up or log in; no explanation is needed.
