Cape girls’ lax takes spring break before final run to the finish

The Cape girls’ lacrosse team slid safely into spring break April 12, putting visiting Milford in the Easter basket 20-2. 

The Vikings emerge from the front half of their schedule with a perfect 8-0 record and a 138-33 goal differential. 

Five of their eight wins were posted against undefeated teams.

Cape will host the Atlantic Lacrosse Easter egg hunt Thursday, April 14, then take a full five days off before returning to double practices in preparation for Broadneck (Md.), which will visit Cape Saturday, April 23.

Cape jumped out to a 14-2 first-half lead versus Milford, then glided to the finish for the 20-2 victory.

Molly Mendes, Lexi Nowakowski and Maren Buckaloo each had four goals. Ella Rishko had three goals while raising a ruckus on the draw circle. Single goals were scored by Landon Diehl, Lulu Rishko, Kelly Bragg, Lina Frederick and Lexi Truitt. 

Cape assists were credited to Mendes with six, Sarah Naar with three, and Lulu Rishko, Bragg and Buckaloo with one each.

Milford goals came from Ashlyn Jordan and Hannah Zimmerman. 

Goalie saves for Cape were Anna Lopez with one and Mikaylah Lindsey with two. Madi Stahl had three saves for Milford.

Cape JV played at Sussex Academy April 11 and defeated the Seahawks 11-2 in a contest designated a game, then amended to scrimmage when the zebras didn’t show.   

Cape goals were scored by Olivia Burkentine with six, Frederick with three, and Anna Sullivan and Keara Parsons each with one. 

Recording assists were Diehl, Sullivan and Frederick with two apiece, and Burkentine and Parsons with one each.

Avary Miller and Shea Danahy scored for Sussex Academy.

Free styling - The top Delaware girls’ teams at the midway point are Cape, Tatnall, Sussex Academy and Tower Hill. Archmere and Dover are also in the conversation.
