Rehoboth officials to meet Sept. 20

Rehoboth Beach commissioners will meet at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda includes the swearing-in of Commissioners-elect Suzanne Goode and Craig Thier, election of officers, a presentation by the public works department, an update on community grants and a possible vote on changes to city code related to the building inspector's authority to interpret and enforce the zoning code.

Rehoboth shade tree meeting canceled

A Rehoboth Beach Parks & Shade Tree Commission meeting set for 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 23, has been canceled due to a lack of agenda items, according to a city-issued notice. For more information, contact the city at 302-227-6181 or information@cityofrehoboth.com.

Info session on Indian River Inlet beach, dune repair Sept. 24

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control will hold a community information session from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Bethany Beach Town Hall, 214 Garfield Parkway, to discuss the upcoming dredging, and beach and dune replenishment project on the north side of the Indian River inlet.

The session will revisit the history of the state’s efforts at the inlet and details of the emergency replenishment project to take place this winter on the north side of the inlet. The project will help protect critical infrastructure including Route 1 and the Indian River Inlet bridge during the winter storm season. Delaware residents and visitors can review display boards and engage with DNREC and DelDOT staff. The display boards and other materials will be available on the DNREC website after the session. More information is available at de.gov/dnrecmeetings.

Offshore wind meeting Sept. 25 in Rehoboth

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management published information Aug. 22 related to a second offshore wind sale in the Central Atlantic, which initiated a 60-day public comment period that ends Oct. 21.

BOEM will host its Central Atlantic Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Task Force meeting and additional public meetings during this period, including one from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the Fairfield Inn and Suites, 19113 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach.

These sessions will allow the public to learn more about the Central Atlantic planning process through interactive stations and individualized discussions with BOEM staff. They will also include opportunities for providing written comments but will not include a formal oral comment period.

There will also be public meetings in North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and New Jersey. For more information, go to boem.gov.

Lewes City Hall to close Sept. 20

Lewes City Hall will be closed all day Friday, Sept. 20, for Community Service Day.

The building will reopen at 8 a.m., Monday, Sept. 23.

Sussex BoA to meet Sept. 23

The Sussex County Board of Adjustment will meet at 6 p.m., Monday, Sept. 23, in council chambers of the County Administration Building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. The board will hear four requests.

The first is a variance request from side-yard setbacks and separation distance requirements for proposed and existing structures at 14 Harbor Road, Millsboro.

Next is a variance request from front-yard setback requirements for proposed structures at 8 Venetian Drive in the Seabreeze subdivision, Rehoboth Beach.

Third is a variance request from front-yard setback requirements for a proposed structure at 32210 S. Dogwood Drive, Dagsboro.

The final is a variance request from the landscape buffer requirements in the combined highway overlay zone for a property east of Sussex Highway near Greenwood.

Sussex County Council meets Sept. 24

Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, in council chambers of the County Administration Building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Members will consider proclamation requests for Emergency Preparedness Month and Literacy Month. They will also consider awarding the contract for the Winding Creek Village water district, as well as updates on upgrades to the South Coastal Regional Wastewater Facility and the second phase of the capital improvement program for the Rehoboth Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant. Council will also consider grant requests from Lower Sussex Little League for a digital sign and Shoes That Fit for its new sneaker program.

Dewey infrastructure committee meets Sept. 26

The Dewey Beach Infrastructure Committee will meet at 3 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. Members will review the status of town flood mitigation projects on Read, Jersey and Van Dyke streets, and will possibly vote to recommend to town council a proposal from Beacon Engineerig to address flooding on Jersey Street. Lewes bike group to meet Sept. 24

The Lewes Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, at city hall.

The agenda includes discussion and possible action on recommendations in the Lewes bike plan.

No more pay to park in Rehoboth Beach

Rehoboth Beach’s pay-to-park season ended at the close of the day Sept. 15.

Bikes are again permitted on the Boardwalk all day, but dogs are prohibited from the beach and Boardwalk through Monday, Sept. 30. After that date, leashed dogs are permitted through to April 30.
