Communities in Bloom awards top honors to City of Lewes
Communities in Bloom recently announced the City of Lewes as the winner of the International Challenge Small category during its 2024 symposium and awards ceremonies in the City of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
The City of Lewes received a rating of 5 Blooms - Silver and a special mention for Transforming Public Spaces Through Community Dedication. The other finalist in this category was Limone sul Garda, Brescia, Italy.
Over the summer, trained volunteer judges travelled to participating communities to evaluate the overall contributions of municipal councils and departments, industry, businesses and the private sector – including volunteer efforts – regarding the following criteria: Community Appearance, Environmental Action, Heritage Conservation, Tree Management, Landscape and Plant & Floral Displays.
In their evaluation report, volunteer judges Dr. Andrea Bocsi and Alain Cappelle said, “The transformation of Lewes' public spaces, gardens and parks into vibrant and beautiful areas is a testament to the power of community involvement. What began with just a handful of dedicated volunteers has blossomed into Lewes in Bloom, a thriving initiative that now includes over 400 enthusiastic community members. Together, these volunteers have elevated the city's aesthetics to new heights, creating lasting value for Lewes. Their collective efforts, supported and inspired by dedicated leaders, have made Lewes a true garden city.”
