The Coastal Corvette Club of Delaware presented a $15,600 check to Peggy Dolby, Delaware Hospice director of philanthropy, Dec. 2 at Nicola Pizza in Lewes.
The club, which has raised a total of $33,000 for the Delaware Hospice over the course of several years, raised this year’s sum – which is double the total of previous years, according to club member Jan Johnson – through a golf tournament.
The tournament, the ninth of its kind, was hosted in October at the Rookery golf course in Milton, attracting 92 golfers and offering several golf-related activities.
“A lot of time, effort and hard work went into fundraising,” said Johnson.
The club collected monetary donations from the community and local businesses, in addition to holding a 50/50 raffle and silent auction, with gift baskets and items designed and donated by its members. Items included donated rounds of golf from local courses and clubs, larger gift items and alcoholic beverages.
Dolby, who accepted the check on behalf of Delaware Hospice, said, “Our patients don’t worry about a thing. They never get a bill … This $15,000 covers folks so they have peace of mind.
“They’re like, ‘You don’t worry about anything,’” she said. “‘Don’t worry about the medicine, don’t worry about the bed, don’t worry about any of the other things that come along with this,’ which now I’ve learned are hundreds of things.”
Every dollar raised counts, she said.
“I want you guys to feel really good about this check, because I do,” Dolby said.
