Cape Henlopen Elks support veterans with holiday donations
The Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 veterans committee recently donated $1,000 worth of $50 gift cards for veterans living at Home of the Brave near Milford.
With the mission to reduce homelessness among the local military veteran population, Home of the Brave provides transitional housing, food and security. Its staff assists residents with resources for employment, counseling services, affordable housing, and access to healthcare and transportation. Along with the Elks, Home of the Brave works to help veterans successfully transition into permanent housing and personal independence.
The gift cards are used by residents to help with travel expenses for job training and medical appointments. At this time, Home of the Brave facilities house 13 men and six women with three children.
The Elks veterans committee also donated $1,000 to Stockings for Soldiers. The nonprofit sends personalized holiday greetings to brave young men and women in uniform serving their country around the world. Over the years, local Elks volunteers have sent nearly 150,000 personalized stockings filled with goodies and sharing good cheer.
