The Cape girls’ lacrosse team passed the halfway point of the regular season April 17 at Champions Stadium with a 17-4 win in the wind over visiting Indian River.
Cape will host Milford at 6:15 p.m., Friday, April 19, on Youth Night. The Bucs are 4-1 on the season.
Cape’s 17 goals came from 13 different players, led by Claire Lopez, Macy Steinwedel, Carrie Clausius and Mairead Rishko each with two goals. Single goals were scored by Lindsay D’Ambrogi, Avary Miller, Lulu Rishko, Grace Wiggins, Addy Basile, Ally Diehl, Haley Gamuciello, Regan Best and Lexi Nowakowski.
Nowakowski, a senior heading to Vanderbilt University, saw her first live action of the season after returning from a torn labrum in her shoulder.
Lopez led the assist parade with five, followed by D’Ambrogi, Miller, Lulu Rishko, Wiggins, Clausius and Best each with one.
Goalie saves for Cape were Abby Schaeffer with five and Anna Lopez with three.
Goal scorers for the Indians were Kylie Harris with two and single goals from Chloe Harris and Jasmine Gutierrez.
Indian River is 2-5 on the season and next plays at Delaware Military Academy at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 20.
Notes - Caesar Rodney, coached by former Cape goalie Gina Voss, won a home game April 17 versus Sussex Academy 13-8. The Riders (6-2) are unbeaten in Delaware, having lost to Stephen Decatur and Queen Anne’s of Maryland. They will be on the road Monday, April 22, at Archmere (5-1) before visiting Cape Wednesday, April 24. The Beacon girls’ lacrosse team ran its record to 4-0 with a 10-1 win over a solid Worcester Prep squad. Beacon has outscored opponents 55-5. The girls of coaches Lynn Richardson and Sam Purple will face a tough Sts. Peter and Paul squad on the road Tuesday, April 23. Cape’s traditional Tall versus Small inter-squad game will be played at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, April 20, at Champions stadium. The tradition was brought to Cape by P.J. Kesmodel in 2009.
