Nearly 150 Volunteers helped Mountaire Farms employees packed 3,000 meal boxes Dec. 21 during the annual Christmas for Thousands event at the company’s Selbyville warehouse.
The boxes contained enough food to feed 12,000 people. Representatives of nonprofit organizations and church groups lined up with trailers, trucks and vans to accept the boxes and distribute them to those in need.
Overall, the holiday meal program will feed more than 36,000 people, with other Mountaire sites in North Carolina participating in the program.
“The need always seems greater during the holidays, and we are blessed to be able to do what we can to help families this time of year,” said J.R. LaPearl, director of Mountaire Cares, the company’s charitable giving program. “What I love about these events is that it brings people together to share love and kindness to one another. That is what Christmas is all about.”
The Christmas event is part of the company’s Thanksgiving for Thousands program that also feeds people at Easter. Company President Phil Plylar said the goal in 2022 was to provide meals to 200,000 people.
