Patricia Louise Blacklock, devoted to family

March 30, 2022

Patricia Louise Blacklock, 90, of Landenberg, Pa., passed away Monday, March 21, 2022, under a bright blue sky on the first day of spring. She was born Tuesday, April 14, 1931, at home in Grand Rapids, Mich., daughter of Edward Daniel and Vada Alber.

Patricia grew up in Linden, N.J., and attended Linden High School. On June 3, 1950, Patty married the love of her life, George Blacklock Jr. Patty and George remained married and celebrated 67 years together until George passed in 2018. Patty and George moved to Chatham Township, N.J., in 1953 and raised their son Curt and daughter Janis there. The couple moved to Rehoboth Beach in 1987 and enjoyed the next 30 years in retirement at the beach. Patty and George moved to Millcroft Assisted Living in 2017.

Patty was a homemaker and also worked for Bloomingdales for many years. In retirement, she loved traveling with George in their motor home The Gypsy Rose and in later years wintering at The Jensen Beach Club on Hutchinson Island in Florida for many years. She enjoyed social events and kept many friends including her ladies club whose members dated all the way back to their high school years. She cherished her children and grandchildren, and was able to meet her great-granddaughter shortly before her passing.

She enjoyed beach life, tending her plants and flowers, and had a green thumb, especially with African violets. She volunteered at The Village Improvement Association in Rehoboth as well. She was known for her infectious laugh and her off-key singing to her grandchildren. Many days Patty could be found on the beach with her good friends enjoying each other and playing Rummikub.

Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was loved by many; she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Patty is survived by her son, Dr. Curt Blacklock and his wife Teresa of Landenberg; her daughter, Janis Blacklock and her husband William Ruhnke of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Michelle, Vincent, Stephen, Alexandra, and Tristan; and her great-grandchildren, Leonardo, Anthony, and Carmen.

A memorial service and a gathering of friends will take place later this spring.
