Royals volleyball take down Indians 3-0

October 10, 2022

Elaina Millaway knocked down 18 kills and bumped 12 digs to lead the Royals past a strong Indian River squad 28-26, 25-12, 25-9 Oct. 6 at the Delmarva Christian gymnasium. Indian River moved to 6-3.

The Royals stayed hot from their 3-0 victory over Maryland powerhouse Archbishop Spalding two days earlier.

Delmarva Christian senior libero Lily Fetterman bumped 16 digs in the match, while Tessa (16) and Maggie (8) Kwiatkowski teamed for 24 assists. Senior Ellie Millaway put away seven kills and bumped 12 digs. Kaylan Yoder garnered five kills and two blocks. Evelyn Jensen knocked down three kills and roofed two blocks. Addy Benjamin roofed three blocks

“Lately we have just been working on being encouraging and always talking,” said Millaway. “We’ve grown as a team. That’s really been helping our game, and we’ve been doing so much better. We’ve needed to piece it together and we’ve done that. The state tournament is our goal.”

“We kept our energy up the entire match,” said Fetterman. “We went for everything and were really aggressive and that was the difference, I think. I have full faith in our front line that they are going to be aggressive and smart for each play and setters Tessa and Maggie (Kwiatkowski sisters) are two great options who are doing really well.”

“When we play well together it’s game over,” said Royals senior Laylan Yoder. “”We are all doing what’s best for the team. Everyone contributed to the win.”

“All of our servers were very aggressive today,” said Royals coach Mike Zampini. “They were picking spots and hitting them. I’m really proud at the way they played. Indian River’s a great team. We are happy with the win. We are playing fun volleyball.”

The Royals junior varsity squad moved to 5-3 with a 2-0 win over the JV Indians.
