With summer comes the Lewes Cup, which is the official start of the Lewes Yacht Club sailing season.
With favorable weather conditions, the race, under the direction of principal race officer Michelle Bland, went off as scheduled at 11 a.m and ended around 4:30 p.m., June 22.
The overall Lewes Cup winner was Thundercrack, a J70 skippered by Rick Hanson, which also took top honors in Class A competition.
Other winners included:
Class A: Balance, J70, Richard Beebe, second; Little Rascal, J70, Rick Pfarr, third; and Libertas, J111, Tom Goetz, fourth.
Class B: Shredder, Ranger, Nate Landis, first; Going Green, Tartan 33, Dave Cerney, second; Delilah, Beneteau 35s5, Heath Gehrke, third; Mystery, Catalina 30, Richard Tormet, failed to finish in time allotted.
Already underway are weekly Beer Can Fleet races on Wednesdays and one-design racing on Saturdays.
