Lewes uses long ball to down Milton in major all-stars tourney

The Lewes major all-stars used home runs by Lucca Fazio and Ayden Jester to score a 6-1 victory over Milton in District 3 first-round action July 11.

Fazio delivered with a homer in the first inning to score Briggs Gannon to take a 2-0 lead. Jester then went yard to boost the score to 3-0.

Fazio went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, while Jester went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Briggs Gannon and Grant Hershelman each garnered a hit.

Finn Gannon threw five innings on the mound, striking out four batters and taking the win. Brother Briggs came in from the bullpen in the sixth to finish the game.

Milton’s Mason Conran went 2-for-2, while Brody Deas had a hit. Chase Madden started on the mound for Milton, striking out four batters.

The Lewes team defeated Nanticoke 6-4 July 14 to remain unbeaten in the tournament. 

Hershelman went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Ben Pease drove in a run. Jacoby Clark doubled, while Mason Thompson and Andrew Mekulski each delivered hits.

Briggs Gannon went the distance on the mound, giving up seven hits and striking out six.

Lewes will face Georgetown Tuesday, July 16, at Millsboro Little League.

Milton staved off elimination July 14 by defeating Millsboro 13-4. The Milton squad is back in action at 6 p.m., July 15, when they face Lower Sussex at Woodbridge Little League.
