‘Sound of Music’ auditions set July 22-23 in Milford

July 14, 2024

Second Street Players announced auditions for “The Sound of Music” are set for 6:30 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, July 22 and 23, at the Riverfront Theater, 2 S Walnut St., Milford. The show calls for a large cast of performers from age 6 and up in a variety of roles.

Directors Steven Haber and Melissa Brenner said auditioners should arrive on time, be prepared to move, and have an appropriate song prepared to sing either a cappella or with self-provided audio accompaniment. The theater sound system will not be available. Timely arrival is important, as the directors will be auditioning people in groups.

In addition to the title number, the musical’s cherished songs include “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi” and “Sixteen Going on Seventeen.”

Based on the memoir of Maria Augusta von Trapp, the inspirational story follows an ebullient postulant who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.

Performance dates are Friday to Sunday, Nov. 29 to Dec. 1, and Dec. 6 to 8, with a possible third weekend. To be considered for casting, those auditioning must be available for all performances and during the two weeks prior to opening night.
