Cape girls’ soccer holds on to defeat Lake Forest 1-0

Dolan scores lone goal for Vikings
April 5, 2022

Cape sophomore forward Ava Dolan took a rebound deflection off the Lake Forest goalie and hit the twine at the 10-minute mark to give the Vikings all they needed to garner a 1-0 victory over the Spartans April 4 at Jim Blades Stadium.

“Cadence [McMahon] went to shoot it and it rebounded out, and I saw the shot and I took it,” said Dolan. “I was so excited. The spirit was there from our team, and I think we played well.”

Casey Schnupp was credited with the assist.

“We didn’t play up to our potential tonight,” said Cape head coach Patrick Kilby. “We did earn the result, and we were able to scrap for the win. We were very pleased with the play of our goalkeeper Brianna [Burrell]. We are looking forward to getting Giselle Garcia back, as she is trying to rehab a knee injury.”

Burrell, a sophomore, made four saves and recorded her first shutout.

“I feel our defense did really well tonight,” said Burrell. “I had good vision tonight because of them.”

Cape outshot the Spartans 5-4. Lake Forest goalkeeper Kadija Bundu stopped four shots.

The Vikings travel to Sussex Tech Wednesday, April 6.
