June 2, 2022

Late afternoon at the beach, expect the weather to turn annoyingly cooler, but drive north and the opposite may be in play.

The survive-and-drive fifth-seeded Cape boys’ lacrosse team was slipping and slogging through the first half of a semifinal game against top-seeded Archmere at Abessinio Stadium. The Vikings led 6-3 at the half thanks to a last-second goal by Jack Schell and a first-half hat trick by Mikey Frederick.

Cape goalie Evan Erhardt was locked in, recording 10 saves for the game.

The Vikings blew the game wide open with a 6-1 run in the third quarter.  Hank D’Ambrogi came loose, ripping rope as part of the power surge toward the 13-6 victory.

Cape’s goal production came from Frederick and D’Ambrogi each with four, Cody Trivits with two and Schell, Jahden Cannon and Luke Burton each with one.

D’Ambrogi and Mike Guenther each had an assist.

Archmere goals were Drew Duncan with four, and Daniel Kupiec and Colin Arcari each with one.

Conor France had 12 saves for the Auks.

The state final game against Salesianum is scheduled for noon, Saturday, June 4, at Caravel Academy.

Notes - Cape lost to Salesianum in last year's state final 12-10. Cape beat Sallies in the 2019 final 12-10. Cape beat Sallies in the finals at Caravel in 2014 by a score of 9-7 behind five goals from Blake “Little Big” Mann and 12 saves from Grant Gillan.
