Cape boys’ lacrosse beats Caesar Rodney 19-3

Hill School, Salesianum next on schedule for Vikings
April 28, 2022

A tribute to Dr. Dave Robinson at Rider Stadium followed by a moment of silence led into a rivalry game between Caesar Rodney and visiting Cape Henlopen.

Cape dominated from the opening face-off won by C.J. Fritchman, racing out to a 14-0 halftime lead, then running the second-half clock to win 19-3.

The Vikings are 7-1 on the season, but it’s about to get real as the Hill School from Pottstown, Pa., comes to Legends Stadium for a Friday night game at 6:30 p.m., followed by Salesianum at Legends Stadium at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 3.

“We had a lot of assisted goals, which is a good indication that we are playing well as a group,” said coach Mark D’Ambrogi. “Mikey [Frederick] and Hank [D’Ambrogi] have done a good job leading our offense and dodging with their heads up. When teams slide, we have done a good job of sharing the ball to the next open guy. Jack Schell, Cody Trivits, Luke Burton are playing well and consistently putting up points. I feel our development as a team has been a product of their hard work in practice. Defensively, Finn Forcucci and Hunter Jones are setting a great example leading our defense. Our next game against the Hill School should be a great test, and we look forward to the opportunity.”

Cape goal scorers were D'Ambrogi with five, Frederick and Schell with four each, Joe Coveleski with two, and Mike Guenther, Fritchman, Trivits and Thomas Gibbs with one apiece.

Cape assists were recorded by Frederick, Trivits and D’Ambrogi with three each; Schell with two; and Guenther, Fritchman, Jahden Cannon, Gibbs and Burke Healy with one apiece.

Goalie saves were Evan Erhardt with three and Michael Sposato with four.

Fritchman won 17 of 20 face-offs.

Caesar Rodney stats were unavailable.
