Cape boys’ lacrosse blows out Caravel 23-8

The Cape boys’ lacrosse team battered the Buccaneers of Caravel May 9, as small-craft warning flags flew over the Delaware Bay. The Vikings led 19-0 at the half, but Caravel got up off the deck in the second half to outscore Cape 8-4 for a final score of 23-8.

Cape improved to 9-3 on the season, while Caravel fell to 5-5. 

Cape has games remaining against Smyrna at 4 p.m., Friday, May 13, then will play at home versus Sanford at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 19, before playing at Sussex Academy Saturday, May 21, in the Henlopen Conference Championship game.  

The state tournament begins Tuesday, May 24. 

Cape goals were scored by Hank D’Ambrogi with five; Mikey Frederick with three; Jack Schell, C.J. Fritchman, Brexton Carter, Cody Trivitts and Thomas Gibbs each with two goals; and Luke Burton, Jahden Cannon, Hunter Jones, John Huss and Joe Coveleski each with one goal. 

Assist leaders were Frederick with three, Mike Geunther and D’Ambrogi with two, and Cannon, Zack Clausius and Burton with one apiece. 

Cape goalies Evan Erhardt and Michael Sposato each had three saves.
